ThE Afro movement? Are white people and their perming creams done for or nah? ?😂😂😂

So, lately. Natural hair is the new perm. Lol. You may have noticed. Girls are now wearing their "fros" and leaving the flows. (Silky hair) . I was wondering. .....how did Black women start perming their hair ? And why?
So let's go down memory lane of history, and see the juice that we can extract.

Before the end of slavery, black hair was deemed unattractive. Instead, the beauty standard  was long, silky hair like that of white people. Renowned  white supremacists such as former president Thomas Jefferson set this precedent.

After slavery, the same ideal remained intact. The coarse, kinky hair of black people was considered unacceptable and unprofessional, especially within the workforce. African American women (and some men) began conforming to the traditional hairstyles of White American women to gain acceptance. They would use hot combs to straighten out their hair. However, most black women discovered that their hair would not cooperate with this method. This led many to use hazardous perms and wave creams that is still being used to this day.

It's a sad story. I mean, even till this day, some girls do not know that when you perm your hair it reduces the value of your hair, makes it change from  black to brown in most cases, some people lose their hair, there's also the case of hair breakage, scalp irritation and infections. My ladies the list could go on and on. I've had some say that natural hair takes too much time it's difficult to comb and what not. Others just want it easy but don't know they are doing themselves more harm than good. 

I mean I understand that back in the day (during and after colonial times) women used hot irons and perming creams to straighten their hair and make it look "presentable " but in those days that was inferiority complex speaking. That was some Form of mental slavery speaking. No
offense but I had to add that. 

But now! The natural hair movement is speaking. We have mix and black models showcasing their beautiful natural hair  (coarse and kinky ) . Now it's not about having loose curls anymore. Now even beauty itself has evolved. I mean, black is the new beautiful! 

And with the evolution of natural hair came "edges" . They didn't exactly evlove together but they go hand in hand and things couldn't get anymore natural with natural hair making the headlines and making white people drool over our "drip".  

Lastly I'd like to address the issue of hair types. 

A lot of girls complain that their natural hair isn't really working out. Question is...how are you treating it? What type is it? What oil does it need?

So,now you know your hairtype. You can go further by checking what hair creams are good for your natural hair type and the type of protective hair style for you. Because not every "protective hairstyle " is good for everybody. So please. Take caution.
At this point I think it's safe to say very soon those white hair perming products will be off our markets. Thank you!
